Can I erase bad marks on my credit report?

I am 20 years old, so I don’t have a long history on my credit report. I have three credit cards carrying balances total to $1500 that I am ready to pay off in full. I have three 30-day late payments on my credit report, which is killing my score.

My question: I know I can negotiate with the credit card companies, but my GOAL is to pay them in full IF they remove the 30-day late payment marks on my credit report.

Just wondering how realistic this is, and if I should call or write letters.

Thanks!
Those bad marks are killing my score simply because I am young and there’s not much else on there. I do see though that the CC company makes money from me not paying and the best option is to just pay it off. Thanks for everyones answers!

You can try to negotiate removal of those 30-day lates but don’t hold your breath. In fact the original credit card company is the least likely to remove valid derogatory entries from your credit file. They have absolutely no incentive to do so. You owe the balances on those accounts and if you don’t pay them, they can pursue you thru the legal system.

The best thing you can do for your credit file, is to pay off those cards. That will immediately improve your score. Then pay all your bills on time.

You will need at least a 24 month consistent, on time payment history to see real improvement in your score.

How can I fix my credit score and raise it to 700?

My credit score is about 657 I want to raise to 700 and higher, any way I can get my credit report fix and how do i do that?

You need to make sure that you pay all of your bills on time every month. Next, if you have credit cards, you need to make sure that the most that you are using of your available credit is less than 20%. Check your credit report for any inaccuracies and get them fixed.

If I get a credit card through my husband will this increase my credit score?

I’ve applied for credit cards everywhere, but all of them turn me down because I have insufficient credit history. My husband however can get a credit card. We would really like to build up our credit so in the future we have a chance at good mortgage rates. If he gets a card and puts me on it so that I have one will this increase my credit history and thus my credit score?

Get a credit card from local bank and pay it in time. You also can use this service to avoid common mistakes while buiding credit and pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of payments – freecreditreport.sinfree.net

How can I succesfully repair my own credit ?

Do credit repair companies work? I want to build or buy a house for my family .This is no joke , I have seven kids . So it’s very important that I get a good P.M.I. and a good interest rate or I’ll never be able to afford it. I make about 60k a year , but one of kids had to have 5 brain surgeries right after she was born and this ruined my wife and my credit . Any suggestions would be appreciated. Please , serious stuff only.

What does a person credit score have to do with rates on car insurance rates?

It should be against the law since everyone must carry car insurance. Also, what does my low credit score got to with my great driving record? Sounds like another reason to raise rates because most credit scores are low across the board. If someone pays their insurance company on time and has a good driving record should be their only concerns. Doesn’t that make sense to raise car insurance rates to persons that had a hard time paying a bill, bit made all their car insurance payments on time.

It will take a few years but some states have passed laws that ban the companies from using credit in their equations. In a few years we will see if their new ‘equations’ work as well as the equations that have credit in them. If they do, then many states will be passing laws to ban credit use

Here is some more detailed info about it -

Hope that helps.

How many often do you need to "utilize" your idle credit cards?

I have probably 5-7 credit cards, 3 being major bank cares. All my cards are zero balances and idle for a few years. I found out it’s not good to keep them inactive or to close them out. Thinking keeping a zero balance would help my credit, could actually cause more harm. So I’m trying build my credit and was wondering how often should a credit card be used?

You have also missed another reason for using the cards – card companies are expected to start implementing a "non-activity" fee, meaning that if you do not use the card, they will charge you a small fee (say $10) for having the card. Obviously, for this fee, each bank will be different so keep tabs on any info you get from your card companies.

Next, you are correct that having idle cards does not help you build credit (although closing an idle account does hurt your credit). Your goal should be to use the cards on at least a quarterly basis for small items that you would normally pay cash for and pay off the balance when the bill comes in. This keeps the cards active and build up a payment history which builds your credit score. By paying off when the bill comes in, you avoid finance charges. Do not, however, pay before the bill comes in, as that will not help – the payment before the statement date will not show as a payment history and may even show as an inactive account (you begin the month with a zero balance and you end the month with a zero balance – looks like no activity).

Edit:

Whatever you do, do not close out the accounts – approximately 1/3 of your credit score is based on what is called available credit. Available credit is calculated by adding up the balances on all the cards and adding up the limits on all the cards – subtract the balances from the limits and that is the raw available credit – the higher this number (within reason), the better your score. The theory is that people with a high available credit ratio (available credit divided by the total credit limits) are better budgeters of their cash while maintaining an emergency spending reserve (the ability to use the cards if something catastrophic occurs). Since you would only be closing out a zero’d card, that would not lower the total balances but would lower the total limit, thus lowering your available credit and lowering your score. Given the weight the scores place on this number, closing out cards can really ding your score.

Is there a way to erase things off your credit history?

I have bad credit. I owed credit card companies a lot of money but I have since paid every penny back. I wanted to know if I could get it erased off my record since it has all be paid back and if so how. Do I have to get it "expunged" like criminals get their criminal records "expunged"?

Most companies will not take off the account from your credit report. Normally they fall off after seven years. However, you can make sure that they are in fact reporting that the accounts have since been paid in full witch will help your score out a bit.

Fix Credit Report?

I didn’t recieve the bill in the mail due to moving so I was late. It did go on my credit report and when I seen it I paid it off immediately. Is there any way to get this off my credit report? I tried to get a vehicle and I couldn’t get it. The loan people told me because I was late on this bill it made my score go down 50 or 60 points.

Thanks!

One late payment would not cause this problem, you need to discover just what did !
